CJE Melton, Sue Stivers attend tourism session in Chattanooga

Adair CJE Ann Melton and Sue Stivers, Chairman of the Columbia-Adair County Tourism Commission were among over 30 individuals from Southern and Eastern Kentucky communities who participated in a Tour Southern & Eastern Kentucky three day workshop.

The work study meeting was held Chattanooga, Tennessee on March 25, 26 and 27, 2008.



Taylor CJE Eddie Rogers, and Marilyn Clarke, Stivers' Taylor County counterpart, also attended the meeting.

"It was a great learning experience to hear leaders from downtown Chattanooga tell their story of how the city and community came together to develop and implement a plan to renovate the old buildings in the downtown area and beautification of the city," Judge Melton said. "I think we brought back ideas which we can implement in Columbia."

Sue Stivers serves as vice-chairman of the Tour Southern and Eastern Kentucky board ofdirector and chairman of the Heartland Waterways Corridor. The corridor consists of Adair, Cumberland, Green, Metcalfe, Monroe and Taylor counties. "I think the trip gave us some good ideas," The purpose of the visit to Chattanooga was to witness the many successes of their downtown main street, the river front district, the Bluff View Arts district, and the many other opportunities Chattanooga has to offer.

"Everyone can implement Chattanooga's successes in their Community", Vicki Kidd, President of Tour South and Eastern Kentucky, said. "They simply need the support of local officials to see that tourism is a vital aspect of Southern and Eastern Kentucky."Tour South and Eastern Kentucky is an initiative of Congressman Rogers. THe organization's mission is to promote, develop and expand the existing and potential industry throughtout Southern and Eastern Kentucky in an effort to contribute to the economic and cultural growth of the region.
