Obituary: Doug W. McCammish, 87, co-founder, McCammish Mfg.

COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM OBITUARIES

Mr. McCammish served in World War II in the Army Air Corps. He was co-founder of McCammish Mfg. Co, the parent of the Columbia Division of McCammish Mfg. He was active in his church. He was a board member of the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Commerce, as his namesake is in Adair County. He was a frequent visitor to Columbia and loved the people and the town, his son recalls.

Douglas Willis McCammish, 88, 17 Colby Hills Circle, Winchester, KY, husband for 65 years to Betty Sue (Burkhardt) McCammish, died Thursday, March 27, 2008 at Clark Regional Medical Center.

Funeral services will be Monday, March 31, 2008, at 11:30amET, at First Christian Church, 24 E. Hickman Street, Winchester, KY. Visitation will be Sunday, March 30, 2008, from 3:00pm to 6:00pmET, at Rolan G. Taylor Funeral Home, 289 South Main Street, Winchester, KY.



Mr. McCammish was the father of the Doug McCammish, Jr, manager of the McCammish Mfg. plant in Columbia, KY.

Mr. McCammish spent a lot of time in Columbia and loved the people and the town, he son said."He frequented the public library for evening reading material and Circle R for early morning breakfast and Betty's for their pie. He always loved good pie," his son said. "He built a deck on the back of the McCammish building overlooking Joe Johnson Little League Park and loved to sit out there and watch baseball games in the evening."

He was a native of Versailles, KY, and the son of the late Willis D. and Marguerite Young McCammish.

He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran, and served in World War II, serving as a radio operator/waist gunner on a B-24 while enlisted.

.Along with his father, he established McCammish Mfg. in 1948. The company is the parent of the McCammish Mfg. Columbia, KY, Division. He was a member and former Deacon and elder of the First Christian Church in Winchester.

He attended Washington and Lee Universities and was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity, a former member of the Lions Club, board member of the Winchester-Clark County Chamber of Comerce, and a participant in the International Executive Service Corps.

Besides his wife, he is survived by the following:
  • Two sons and daughters in law: Douglas Willis (Marcy) McCammish, Jr., Columbia, KY; and Mark (Shirley) McCammish, Winchester, KY

  • Two daughters and son in law: Molly (Craig) McCammish Stotts, of Winchester, KY; and Mary McCammish Davis, Winchester, KY

  • Memorial contributions may be made to First Christian Church, 24, E. Hickman Street, Winchester, KY, or to Hospice East, 407 Shoppers Drive, Winchester, KY.
