Surprise 70th birthday lunch honors June Shanklin June Shanklin was genuinely surprised when some her co-workers were joined by her husband, Bob, and their daughter, Barbara Hancock, to celebrate her 70th anniversary with cake and a catered lunch. During the morning, Mrs. Shanklin had confided to one of her co-workers that she had noticed that no one had remembered her birthday, which was March 18. "This is the first time in all the years I've worked here that has happened," she said, with just a bit of disappointment showing. What she didn't know was that, all along, the birthday dinner was planned all along for today. When she was called to go for a visit to a second floor room, at a little after 11:00amCT, she entered to find some 20 of her co-workers yelling "Surprise!", a room decorated with signs and balloons, a birthday lunch catered by Bob Hamlett, chef and owner of Bob's Country Kitchen at Vester. When the cheers died down, her husband, Bob Shanklin, and their daughter, Barbara Hancock, were brought up from a secret location in the hospital to join the festivities. The meal included a beautifully decoraed 70th birthday cake and baked country ham, green beans, mashed potatoes, and macaroni and tomatoes. Among those in attendance, besides her family, were Jean Bryant, Stacy Melton, Melinda Foster, Robin Chadwell, Shandi Motta, Margie Baker, Leetta Willis, Deborah Buster, Wanda Helm, Nell Curry, Becky Hoff, Tiffany Antle, Peggy Raines, Dorinda Streeval, Jaycob Buster, Dee Turner, Annabel Burkett, and Mr. Hamlett.
