LWC Women's Track & Field opens outdoor season at Berea COLUMBIAMAGAZINE.COM SPORTS By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director BEREA, KY -- The Lindsey Wilson College women's track & field team opened their outdoor season on Saturday at the Berea (KY) College Invitational. The Blue Raider women scored 100 points to finish tied for third in the eight-team event. Host Berea won the event with 228 points. Centre (KY) College finished second with 204 points while Huntington (IN) University tied the Blue Raiders with 100 points. Lindsey Wilson sophomore Amanda Johnson broke her own school record and qualified for the NAIA Outdoor National Championships by winning the 3,000-meter Race Walk. Johnson's time of 15 minutes 47.72 seconds broke her own previous mark by more than 14 seconds. Freshman teammate Megan Furnish finished second in the event with a time of 19:17.47. The women's 4x200 relay team won their event with a time of 1:53.76. The quartet of senior Amber Cannon and juniors Brenetta Bradley, Cassie Niersel and Kristina Wimsatt scored 10 points while just missing the school record by 0.7 seconds. Cannon picked up her second win of the meet with a time of 1:03.92 in the women's 400-meter dash. The Bowling Green, KY, native, also recorded a second place finishes in the 200-meter dash and the 4x100 and 4x400 relays.The Blue Raiders return to action on March 21, 2008 as Lindsey Wilson travels to the Emory (GA) University Classic in Atlanta.
