Sylvia Lovely will speak at LWC on community patriots Frenchburg, KY, native is author of The Little Red Book of Everyday Heroes: How Ordinary People Can Become Community Patriots, and publisher of City magazine. By Sylvia Weixler, LWC news writer Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story COLUMBIA, KY Opportunities for individuals to become community patriots will be the topic of an upcoming talk at Lindsey Wilson College. Kentucky League of Cities Executive Director Sylvia Lovely will speak about her book, The Little Red Book of Everyday Heroes: How Ordinary People Can Become Community Patriots, at 4:00pmCT on Tuesday, March 25, 2008 in the Thomas D. Clark Reading Room of the Holloway Building. Lovelys talk is part of the Lindsey Wilson Lecture Series on Civic Engagement. It is free and open to the public. Lovely has been the Kentucky League of Cities executive director and chief executive officer since 1990. She is also president of the NewCities Institute, a nonprofit organization that encourages citizens to help their communities in the changing world of the 21st century. Lovely is a regular contributor to newspapers and magazines; has appeared several TV and radio programs, and she is the publisher of City magazine. A native of Frenchburg, KY, Lovelys Appalachian background has contributed to her passion to better her life and community. Her message includes a belief in the power of people, no matter who they are or where they live. A graduate of Morehead State University, Lovely is now a member of her alma maters board of regents. She is a graduate from the University of Kentucky College of Law and is an adjunct faculty member in the UK Martin School of Public Policy and Administration. Lovelys numerous awards and special recognition include being named one of Kentuckys Top Women of Influence, Appalachian Woman of the Year, and the 2006 recipient of the Vic Hellard Award, Kentuckys highest honor for public service.
