Fatal accident occurs at KY 80 Bridge construction site

POLICE REPORTS

A Columbia, KY, woman was pronounced dead by the Adair County Deputy Coroner at 8:43 am this morning, Tuesday, March 4, 2008, following a crash on KY East 80 1/2 mile east of Columbia at the KY 80 bridge construction site.

According to Kentucky State Police, the driver, Bridget Karnes, 44, Columbia, KY was operating a 2007 Chevy Avei, traveling west on KY 80, and failed to stop at the bridge construction site.



Her vehicle struck an unoccupied vehicle, causing a chain reaction that involved four other unoccupied vehicles.

The KSP reports that the accident was possibly caused by a edical condition. An autopsy is scheduled tomorrow in Louisville.

Work continues on Road 80 Bridge Construction

JONES-BOURLAND CONSTRUCTION WORKER MELVIN SALYER, PAINTSVILLE< KY, was on the job yesterday when the small Chevy Aveo crashed yesterday into a pickup truck and and caused a chain reaction involving four unoccupied vehicles. "None of us saw the crash," Salyers said. "We were all working in the creek." Salyers said, adding that there were seven workers on the job when the crash occurred. Kentucky State Police were hoping that an autopsy today, Wednesday, March 5, 2008, would determine when the driver of the vehicle, Bridget Karnes of Columbia, died--before or after the crash.

Bridge Construction Site Crash: Airbag had deployed

The AIRBAG HAD DEPLOYED in the small Chevrolet Aveo when the car ran under the bed of an unoccupied construction company vehicle on Tuesday, March 4, 2007, causing a chain reaction with other construction site vehicles, also unoccupied. Kentucky State Police expect an autopsy being performed in Louisville today to help explain what caused the death of the driver of the Aveo, Bridget Karnes, 44, Columbia, KY.
