In last night's brief Columbia City Council meeting the Council completed the annexation of property at 2751 Campbellsville Road, owned by Tommy Grider. The property is the location of Kentucky Environmental Protection Cabinet offices.

The Columbia Planning & Zoning Commission had approved the annexation in a letter to Mayor Patrick R. Bell and the City Council.

After the reading of the P&Z letter by City Attorney Marshall Loy, and on a motion by Councillor Edwin Taylor, seconded by Charles Grimsley, the council voted 6-0 to annex the property.

Henderman, Jessee, and Co. hired for audit

The Council also approved the hiring of Henderman, Jessee and Company for the 2007-2008 audit.

All of the Council Members were present and voted unanimously for the both actions.

Edwin Taylor again calls for Miller Avenue to Jamestown Rd sidewalk

Councillor Edwin Taylor again asked that a sidewalk be built from Miller Avenue to Jamestown Road at Franklin Nissan. "I've talked to all the residential property owners and Brother Roach at the Columbia Church of Christ favors it."

"We need to get this done," Councillor Taylor said. "A lot of Lindsey students use the paths to back and forth to Jamestown ST." Councillor Taylor said he would put the matter in the form of a motion, but Mayor Pat Bell moved on, saying that he would take another look at the project.

Councillor Taylor also asked about the Safe Routes to School sidewalks to the Adair County School District Campus. City Clerk Carolyn Edwards said that all that is needed is to prepare the bid advertisements to get that project going. The funds are available, she said.

Craig Dean recognizes basketball teams, JAIS Academic Team

Councillor Craig Dean recognized the achievements of the John Adair Intermediate School Academic Team and the success of the ACHS Boys and Girls basketball teams, both of which play in the Fifth Region Tournament this week.

Linda Waggener learns how Jackson Lyric Dean got his name

Councillor Linda Waggener recognized Councillor Craig Deans new heir, Jackson Lyric Dean, and asked about the unique name. Councillor Craig said that his son started singing almost immediately, and that's why he's named "Jackson Lyric Dean."

Councillor June Parson told the Council that, from the photo she has seen of Jackson Lyric Dean," he is indeed an exceptionally beautiful child.

Minutes approved for February, 2008 meetings

On a motion by Councillor Charles Grimsley, seconded by Councillor June Parson, the Council approved the minutes of the February 4 and February 16 meetings. The vote was 6-0.

No Citizens, no Mayor's Comments

There were no citizen comments, and Mayor Bell had none in the segment of the meeting designated "Mayor's Comments."

Ten minutes after the start of the meeting, at Mayor Bell's signal, Councillor Joe Moore said, "I don't have anything to say but I'd like to go home." and the meeting was adjourned.

Attendance light

The meeting was attended by media representatives of the Adair Progress, the Community Voice, as well as ColumbiaMagazine.com and WHVE FM 92.7. Citizen Roy Rademacher was present, as were City Clerk Carolyn Edwards, and City Police Chief Mark D. Harris, who was present to comment on questions about crime in the city and the February 2008 City of Columbia Police Reports.
