Letter lost in inbox is reminder of all-time high CM story LETTERS & FEEDBACK This letter to Julia Ann Pickett right after her "biography" was printed in ColumbiaMagazine (August 20, 2008). It was received right after the story was printed, but was lost in the email at the time and should have been printed then. The story, "Raising Julia Ann Pickett was a full-time, full-town chore" created more excitement than about any published in ColumbiaMagazine.com, and the letter was somehow overlooked. The Ken Conrad letter is a reminder that "Raising Julia Ann' is an account worth reading often and that Julia Ann Pickett still needs to finish the book length autobiography. -CM I saved this until the end of the day to read and this is soo good. Your parents could have more accurately nicknamed you the Terrior of Columbia. . . Some of those names I had long ago forgotten. I know you must relive so may of those memories every day, since so many of the surroundings are not changed too much. That haircut is hilarious. Looks like you scalped him. You shouldve done the whole head the same; probably would have looked better. I didnt realize your family and John Burrs family were close friends. Was he coach at that time? Before ACHS he was at the Columbia Grade Center? I cant remember the coach who was the Grade Center when John was at the HS, but it seemed John did not have a lot of appreciation for him. I remember him asking David Upchurch if he learned certain bad habits from the Grade Center coach. Were Patti and Celia Rowe sisters, Hack was a brother? I vaguely remember Celia, and the red hair also. I too was enchanted by her. Never knew any other redheads in those days. Speaking of the poolrooms, I can remember women not wanting to go down the streets to where the poolrooms were, and sometime mothers searching for their boys would send other boys into the poolroom to look for them, and even at that, stand back at a safe distance. I guess I must have been about 10 yrs old before I ever entered those dens of iniquity . . . and it was so exciting. Im sure you will get a lot of compliments on this bio and give so many others, feelings of nostalgia. You are fortunate to have grown up with some really nice people.
