Today could put Pinewood over $30,000 goal; only $1,950 to go

Tucker is grinning; another $1,950 will make him laugh out loud
"We have $28,050 of the $30,000 goal" President V.T. Yarberry of Pinewood Country Club announced this morning at 8:38amCT.

One or a few heroes could put Pinewood Country Club past one of its three major goals for the year, maybe as early as the end of today.

President V.T. Yarberry announced in an interview this morning, Monday, February 25, 2008, that the country club nows has a total of $28,050 of the $30,000 being raised to pay off a short term loan at a local bank due this week.

Of that amount, $27,300 is already in hand. The balance pledged should come in shortly.

"We've made real progress on raising the membership, too, he said. "We're now at 115 members," Mr. Yarberry said. "That means we still have 60 memberships needed to reach our goal of 175 by the end of 2008, but that's doable."

In fact, it is ahead of schedule. If the rate of sign-ups continues as it has in the first 56 days of 2008, the club would have 192 members by December 31, 2008. That's okay with President Yarberry. "We can comfortably accommodate 200," he said.

As the Current Needs Drive is successfully concluded, Mr. Yarberry will be putting more emphasis on the membership drive and on his effort to refinance the Pinewood long term debt to obtain manageable payments.

"If the present board and I are able to refinance," he said, "and give Pinewood Country Club a sound future, we'll will be making a major contribution to the economic future of Columbia and Adair County." The board, besides Mr. Yarberry, includes Cathy Jones, Ed Hancock, Richard Stephens, Craig Feese, Winston Moore, Jason Perkins, Eric Goodin, and James Thomas.

Mr. Yarberry lauded the hometown spirit of the business, professional, and civic leaders and individuals who have made the drive successful so far. "I'm hoping that when those who haven't given see what their colleagues have done for Columbia, they'll come forward with their financial support as well."

"Both of Columbia's funeral homes have given substantially to the cause," he said. "That's the only segment of business which is 100% at this time. If other business sectors follow suite, the drive would be a resounding success."

There are now just today and four more days until the March 1, 2008, deadline the club has self-imposed.

Anyone interested in helping with the fund drive or becoming a member of Pinewood may contact Mr. Yarberry at (270) 384-5014.
