Pinewood Country Club closes in on goal

"Heroes are stepping forward," President V.T. Yarberry says

By Ed Waggener

Pinewood Country Club is within reach of its goal of raising $30,000 in its Winter 2008 Current Needs Drive.

A $1,000.00 gift from Louisville bond attorney Henry Reed and two $500.00 gifts from Grissom-Martin Funeral Home and Stotts-Phelps-McQueary brings the total raised to $24,000.00, as of Friday, February 22, 2008.

There are now just six days until the March 1, 2008, deadline the club has self-imposed.

Yarberry said that the board of directors of Pinewood will review the success of the drive thus far and formulate the plan for its fulfillment at a meeting Sunday afternoon, February 24, 2008, at Pinewood.

The board, besides Mr. Yarberry, includes Cathy Jones, Ed Hancock, Richard Stephens, Craig Feese, Winston Moore, Jason Perkins, Eric Goodin, and James Thomas.

"Community heroes are stepping forward," President Yarberry. "I am proud that so many leaders here appreciate the value of Pinewood Country Club and all it means to Columbia and Adair County." He said that the gift from Mr. Reed was especially significant. "He's a resident of Louisville who's done business in the community and grew fond of the people here. He said he wanted to send the gift as a token of appreciation and friendship."

When this fund drive is complete, the board will concentrate on working on plans to restructure the country club's long term debt in a lower interest package which will allow the club to pay off existing debt in a business like manner.

The entire membership will be working to get new members. At present, the membership is over 102, and plans are to see that number grow to 175 by the end of the year.

Anyone interested in helping with the fund drive or becoming a member of Pinewood may contact Mr. Yarberry at (270) 384-5014.
