Kia driver dies when vehicle collides with concrete truck

POLICE REPORTS

A fatal accident occurred today, February 22, 2008, at 10:30amET six miles west of Springfield, KY US150in the Kentucky State Police Post 15 service area.

Rita Lawhorn, 55, Bardstown, was traveling west on US 150 when her vehicle, a 2004 Kia, dropped off the right shoulder of the roadway.



While she was attempting to regain control of the vehicle, it crossed the center line and struck a 2005 concrete truck, which was traveling eastbound on US 150, head on. The concrete truck was operated by Steven L. Drury, 42, Springfield, KY.

Rita Lawhorn was pronounced dead at the scene by the Washington County, KY coroner.

Both drivers were belted at the time of the collision. Steven Drury was not injured in the collision.

The accident was investigated by Trooper Les Moses of Kentucky State Police Post 15, Columbia, KY.
