Parents of precious new baby, born at Westlake, send thanks Ruby Anne Miller's parents, Kathryn & Jarrett Miller, send thanks to Westlake Regional Hospital, the Adair County EMT, Columbia Police Officers. Westlake did a wonderful job, they say, and send the story of a little girl's launch into Adair County life. By Kathryn Miller, mother of Ruby Anne Miller It was frightening, to say the least, when I went into labor at only 24 weeks pregnant. I called my husband, Jarrett, who called his parents, Charles & Phyllis, and his mom picked me up so we could get to Taylor County Hospital. We got as far as the court house square in Columbia when we realized that the contractions were only two minutes apart. My mother-in-law made the suggestion that we go to Westlake because she and I were afraid we would not make it to Taylor. We pulled into Westlake and two Columbia City Police ofiicers were outside. The two of them were able to talk me out of the car and into the wheelchair. The nurses and doctor started working on me right away. They knew the baby was coming soon and that they may have to deliver there. Well, they were right. At 2:18am on Saturday February 9, 2008, Ruby Anne Miller was delivered weighing in at only 1 pound 6 ounces. The doctor and nurses along with 2 EMT's - and of course my husband - were able to get us through the delivery safe and sound. They brought me and the baby to Taylor County Hospital after the delivery. When we got there they stabilized her and she went on her very first plane ride to Kosair Children's Hospital in Louisville, Ky. Ruby will have to stay there for a couple of months while she continues to get better. I just wanted to say thank you to everyone involved; doctor, nurses, EMT, and police officers. We might not have made it without you. I know Westalke is not used to having babies being born there - muchless premature babies - but they did a wonderful job. I do need to add one thing to the story. There was also a nurse outside that helped me into the wheelchair. I did not intentionally leave her out. I just was having a hard time remembering everything for a while. But I also wanted to thank her.Thank You, Kathryn & Jarrett Miller This story was posted on 2008-02-18 03:03:43
