LWC splits pair of games with Cumberlands

Women upset visitors to tie for first place in MVC

The Lindsey Wilson College women's basketball team upset University of the Cumberlands (KY) 67-65 Saturday afternoon at Biggers Sports Center. But the LWC men were not as fortunate as they fell 73-56 to the visiting Patriots in the second game.

In the women's game, the Blue Raiders (17-9 overall and 5-1 in the Mid-South Conference) withstood a final assault from the Patriots (19-7, 4-2) to upset No. 20 Cumberlands (Ky.) 67-65. LWC was led by freshman center Viktoria Krell's game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds her eighth double-double of the season.



The Blue Raiders are tied for first place in the conference with Georgetown (KY) College.

In the men's game, LWC fell behind late in the first half and never recovered as the Patriots (15-10, 4-2 MSC) pulled away in the final half and cruised to a big conference win. LWC fell to 16-10 overall and 3-3 in the conference.

On Thursday night, the Blue Raiders host border rival Campbellsville (KY) University in a women's-men's doubleheader at Biggers Sports Center. The women's game begins at 6:00pmCT and the men's game will begin around 8:00pmCT. Both games will be broadcast on WAIN-AM/FM and DuoCounty Telecom Channel 2 in Adair and Russell counties.
