Columbian killed in accident on 1-65 near Bowling Green

A former Columbian, Darrell Burton, 46, was pronounced dead at the scene following a collision on 1-65 in Warren County, Thursday evening, February 14, 2008, after the car which he was operating was hit by a semi-trailer truck which pushed the Burton vehicle into the median where it overturned and subsequently, the semi overturned on top of the Burton vehicle.

According to Kentucky State Police Post 3, in Bowling Green, KY, Phillip Foster was north bound, in a semi-trailer truck in the middle lane of I-65. Darrell Burton was traveling beside Mr. Foster's vehicle in the right lane. Mr. Foster failed to see Mr. Burton's vehicle in the right lane and attempted to merge in to the right lane.

Mr. Foster's vehicle's right front impacted the side of Mr. Burton's vehicle. This impact caused Mr. Burton's vehicle to rotate in front of Mr. Foster's vehicle. Mr. Foster's vehicle pushed Mr. Burton's vehicle up the interstate and then both units entered the median.

Mr. Burton's vehicle overturned on its top and Mr. Foster's vehicle came to final rest on top of Mr. Burton's vehicle. Mr. Burton was pronounced dead on the scene.

The adult passenger in Mr. Burton's vehicle, Cynthia Morgan, Edmonton, KY, was taken to the Medical Center in Bowling Green where she was treated and released. Two juveniles, Tyler Huff & Kendra Morgan, also of Edmonton, were flown to Vanderbilt university after a lengthy extraction process.
