Viktoria Krell named NAIA National Player of the Week SPORTS. ColumbiaMagazine.com By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director Lindsey Wilson College freshman center Viktoria Krell has been named National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) Women's Basketball Player of the Week. The national award is the first for the Ludwigsburg, Germany, native. Early this week, Krell earned her second Mid-South Conference player of the week award of the season. "Viki has been phenomenal since just before Christmas," Lindsey Wilson women's basketball coach John B. Wethington said. "It took her a little time to become comfortable within our system, but since then, she has been one of the best players in the nation." Krell averaged 26.5 points and 13.5 rebounds last week as the Blue Raiders split a pair of conference games with Pikeville (KY) College and Georgetown (KY) College. In the Pikeville win, Krell set career highs with 28 points and 16 rebounds as Lindsey Wilson beat the Lady Bears 85-72 last Thursday at Biggers Sports Center. On Saturday, Krell recorded her seventh double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds in Lindsey Wilson's 77-71 loss at Georgetown. She averages 10.7 points and 7.5 rebounds per game this season. Lindsey Wilson is 16-9 on the season and tied atop the Mid-South Conference with a 4-1 record at the halfway point of the MSC season. Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2pmCT on Saturday, February 16, 2008 as the Blue Raiders host University of the Cumberlands (KY) at Biggers Sports Center.
