LWC basketball sweeps Pikeville College at Biggers

The Lindsey Wilson College mens and womens basketball teams swept Pikeville (KY) College on Thursday night at Biggers Sports Center.

In the opening game, the Blue Raider women (16-8, 4-0 MSC) remained in first place in the Mid-South Conference with an 85-72 win over the Lady Bears (5-18, 0-4).



LWC freshman center Viktoria Krell recorded career and game highs with 28 points and 16 rebounds. The double-double was Krells sixth of the season. LWC senior forward Kara Osterfeld tied her career high with 17 points.

In the nightcap, the Lindsey Wilson men scored 11 of the games final 14 points to upset No. 11 Pikeville 65-57.

Lindsey Wilson improves to 15-8 overall and 3-1 in the MSC. Pikeville falls to 18-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.

In the mens game, LWC junior guard George White scored a game-high 23 points, and junior forward Sam Walton added his fourth double-double of the season with 12 points and 11 rebounds.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action for a womens-mens doubleheader on Saturday, February 9, as the Blue Raiders travel to Georgetown (KY) College. The womens game tips-off at 1pmCT with the mens game to follow.

The next Blue Raiders basketball game at Biggers Sports Center is a mens game at 6pmCT against No. 1-ranked Mountain State (WV) University. The game will be aired on DuoCounty Telecom Channel 2.

LWC FRESHMAN CENTER VIKTORIA KRELL drives to the basket late in Thursday nights game against visiting Pikeville (KY) College. Krells field goal made the score 80-64 with 1:32 left in the game. In 33 minutes of action, Krell had a career- and game-high 16 rebounds, as well as a career- and game-high 28 points.

Ceasar field goal puts LWC in front

LWC SENIOR FORWARD MARCUS CEASAR lays the ball in after receiving a smart pass from sophomore guard Jeff Vories (not pictured) in Thursday nights game at Biggers Sports Center. The field goal put the Blue Raiders back in front of visiting Pikeville (KY) College, 47-46, with less than 13 minutes to play in the game. In more than 23 minutes of action, Ceasar came off the bench to score four points and grab a couple rebounds.
