Edmonton, KY's Terran Duncan finishes with season-high 29 points

By Chris Wells, LWC Sports Information Director

The Lindsey Wilson College womens basketball team used offensive efficiency and clutch play down the stretch to beat host Campbellsville (KY) University 76-68 tonight at Powell Athletic Center.

The Blue Raiders (14-8, 2-0 in the Mid-South Conference) shot 54.1 percent (33-of-61) from the field to win their sixth straight game and cap a perfect record in January.

But it was the senior leadership inside the final five minutes that secured the Blue Raiders 11th win in their last 12 MSC regular season games dating back to last season.

After squandering an eight-point first half lead and a five-point lead in the early moments of the second half, Lindsey Wilson found itself clinging to a 62-61 lead with 5:01 left.

The senior-laden Blue Raiders seized the momentum in crunch time scoring the next 12 points and taking a 74-61 lead.

Lindsey Wilson senior guard Kera Gibson opened the run with one of her three three-pointers. Senior center Terran Duncan, who finished with a season-high 29 points, scored back-to-back baskets to increase the LWC lead.

The Edmonton, KY, native, made 14-of-20 from the field to lead all scores. She also grabbed nine rebounds and blocked a shot in 32 minutes.

Senior forward Kara Osterfeld continued the Lindsey Wilson run with her third three-pointer of the game to push the lead to 11 (72-61) with 2:35 left. Osterfeld finished with 11 points, all in the second half.

Duncan capped the run with a basket with 1:52 left to secure the win.

While Lindsey Wilson grabbed controlled on the offensive end, the Blue Raider defense did their job as well. Lindsey Wilson did not allow Campbellsville (13-9, 0-2) a single point for 3:49 and a field goal for more than five minutes down the stretch.

Campbellsville finished shooting 33.8 percent (26-of-77) from the field, including 7-of-31 from three-point range.

Campbellsville senior guard Priscila Alves led the Lady Tigers with 20 points and six assists. Freshman forward Courtney Dannis added 14 points in the loss.

Gibson joined Duncan and Osterfeld in double figures with 13 points. Freshman center Viktoria Krell chipped in 12 points.

Lindsey Wilson returns to action at 2pmCT on Saturday, February 2, 2008, as the Blue Raiders host West Virginia Tech University at Biggers Sports Center.
