Tues., Jan. 29, 2008 storm damages buildings, causes outages Wind takes roof off Sanders Ridge home. Tree falls on lines on Murray Lane. Judge Melton opens Adair Annex as Emergency Shelter. Adair Road Department worked during night, early this morning and continuing work today With photos By Greg Thomas, Adair County Emergency Management Director Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story The storm which swept across Adair County last night caused numerous power outages, and some structural damage to barns and buildings. In the Pellyton area, the storm peeled the roof off the home of Glen Buis, at 2095 Sanders Ridge Road. Mr. Buis was just walking out the door when the wind tore the roof off the home he has lived in since 1981. On the north side of Columbia, a tree fell on power lines, resulting in power outage and the Columbia Fire Department was called out for standby duty there. During the time of the storm, County Judge Executive Ann Melton, opened the County Basement Annexas normal during a storm such as last night for people to take refuge in. Most if not all of Adair Counties Emergency Service organizations responded in someway to assist the County. The Adair County Road Department has had a rough 12 hours since the storm struck last night. Crews were clearing roads of downed trees from 9:30-11:30pm last night, and from 2:00-4:00am Wednesday morning. "They've worked all over the county," CJE Administrative Assistant Lisa Lee said. "They were in the Knifley, Breeding and Glens Fork areas, and they still have a problem tree removal to handle on Neat Hollow Road." There, she said. a downed tree fell into another one and removal may imperil a residence, she said. This story was posted on 2008-01-30 10:47:17
