Events Updates for February & March 2008 underway

Some general notes, below, on submissions, with a major plea to send in caps and lower case, and to restrict exclamation points to one per article, and just a few more details to help make the Events calendar work better for everyone.

Thanks to everyone for making the ColumbiaMagazine.com community Events calendar so popular. Without the help of so many others, it would not be possible.

Major editing for February and March events are now underway. If you have an approaching event, please let us know.

Readers' and organizational public relations persons' help would be greatly appreciated as the ColumbiaMagazine.com community Events calendar is updated for February and March, 2008. If you have items to submit, please use the CM Contact/Submit button. It will help immensely if those submitting will follow the precise format used in the Events calendar. As with all submissions, we ask that the submissions be in caps and lower case only, that exclamation points be limited to one or less per article, and that anyone submitting give complete contact information.

And, please, save the ellipses for stream of consciousness poetry and your grandchildren. They may be valuable one day, but they require too much editing for us. Ditto with hyphens and em dashes. Simple declarative sentences are best.

Please include:
  1. When the event will be held: Including the date, date, day of the week, and time, including time zone. (CT or ET)
  2. What the event is: Include a general title.
  3. Where the event will be held. Include the street address, building name, room or suite number.
  4. Who is sponsoring the event, and who is benefitting, when the event involves tickets, donations, or has a price.
  5. Why the event is being held.
  6. How the event is handled. Brief rules, if applicable
If at all possible:
  1. Send the event in the body of One (1) email. If all information is not sent in one email, the follow-up should contain the complete event including the update
  2. Do not send handbills unless that is a last resort
  3. If a photo is attached, please send as attachment in jpg format, at least 640 pixels wide up to 1,000 pixels wide.
Please do always check items after they are posted for accuracy. It is only necessary to contact us if changes are needed. When changes are needed, please maintain clarity of instructions, preferably by resending brief items in their entirety. Longer ones with specific instructions (Story title, SID, paragraph beginning and item to be changed.)

In most cases, for events, we run:
  1. A front page news story
  2. Entries on each day of the ColumbiaMagazine.com Events caledndar
  3. An entry in an appropriate CM Classified Ads category,
  4. Briefly, with the classified ad, the announcement in the "Featured Classified" on the front page
  5. Most importantly, the Event is included in the hourly "Today," feature on the front page, on the day of the event.
Remember, as well, to send the Event as early as possible. It allows greater awareness, and could help others schedule in a non-conflicting way.

The Events calendar is almost entirely free. We do appreciate it if paid advertising to build interest is purchased in addition. And our feelings are hurt if our free advertising is used and paid advertising is used elsewhere.

CM rates are incredibly reasonable for the impact they generate, and the limited advertising we accept supports the site.

-EW.
