Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story

Joshua Sansom, a fourth grader at Holy Trinity Lutheran School in Bowling Green was instumental in a teacher at his school still being alive today.

Joshua was taking some kingergarteners to a school assembly when he noticed the teacher slumped over her desk.

He knew to look at her lips and noticed that they were blue in color.

He told the students that their teacher was sleeping and took them to another classroom.

He then proceeded to run to his principal and told her that one of her staff members was sleeping and she needed to go check on her. The principal could tell by Joshua's excitement that something was wrong.

When they were on the way back to the teacher, the principal told Joshua to go get his teacher because she also knew CPR.

The two had to perform CPR until the paramedics arrived. The paramedics happened to be driving by the school when they got the call.

Because of Joshua's quick thinking, the teacher is still alive today.

The teachers said it way a miracle that this happened a school and not elsewhere. "Had it happened 15 minutes earlier she might have been in her car driving to school? Had it happened an hour earlier, she could've been home with her 4 year old. We know God was watching out for her," Karen Mitchell, School Director said. On January 4, 2008.

Joshua and the teachers were recognized as WBKO's Hometown Hero.

The teacher who was found, Brandy Dennison, was quoted on WBKO as saying these three people who helped her that day had definitely earned their wings.

Joshua was also given an Adair County General certificate by County Judge Executive Ann Melton for his quick thinking and action.

Joshua is the son of Mary And Mark Sansom of Bowling Green and the grandson of Mary Allender and the late Robert K. Allender of Columbia, KY.
