Adair County Water plant is now supplying Columbia

Water from the new Adair County Water Plant is now flowing to the entire system all over Adair County, Adair County Water District Manager Lenny Stone said."At around 1:30 today," Stone said, " the plant started the flow to the City of Columbia, Cane Valley, and the Holmes areas." With the additions of those areas, all of Adair County is served from the $14 million plant on Griffin Springs Road just north of Coburg. The city's water plant is "idling," Stone said. That is, the plant will be kept in readiness to start producing water should the need arise.

The Adair County Water Districts new Shepherd Facility is not online yet, but Stone said he expects it to be within a few weeks. Water from the tank on the grounds of the old Shepherd School will supply approximately one third of Adair County, from Knifley to the Sano-White Oak section. The Caldwell Tank Company still has some finish work to complete on the huge 500,000 gallon tank, including painting it, but the huge structure, with six support legs, already is in its final shape.Generator next bigg project

A backup generator, which carries an estimated cost of $1 million dollars is now in the engineering and finance stage, but could be in place by the middle of 2008.

After that, Stone said, "The big push will be to get a 12" line around the Western Bypass. That will let us serve the new development on KY 61S as well as along the bypass, and, when that is operational, we'll be able to make sales to adjoining counties as needed."
