Academic team 1st at ACHS ever to qualify for NAQT Nationals! ADAIR COUNTY WINS AT CENTRAL HARDIN Vicki Leibeck, Todd Smith, Marty Miller, Luke Maupin, Chris Yates, and Lydia Tiller The Adair County High School Academic Team won the regional National Academic Quiz Tournament (NAQT) weekend invitational tournament at Central Hardin High School, Cecilia, KY, this Saturday, January 19, 2008. The team added to its list of accomplishments this year by storming through six rounds of competition to qualify for the NAQT National Tournament in May for the first time in the program's history. NAQT is a standard "quiz bow" format played all across the United States that varies from Kentucky's unique Governor's Cup format, in which Adair County has been a State Finalist three years in a row. Adair earned victories over Edmonson County, Owensboro, Central Hardin, Frederick Fraize, Owensboro Catholic, and the 2006 and 2007 NAQT State Champions Madisonville North-Hopkins on their way to their first ever NAQT Invitiational event championship. After accomplishing the feat of qualifying for International competition in Future Problem Solving and finishing an astounding 3rd Place overall in 2007, this year's qualification for NAQT Nationals makes Adair one of only three schools in the entire state's academic competition history to qualify for both FPS Internationals and quiz bowl nationals. Participating students in this weekend's triumph were Vicki Leibeck, Todd Smith, Marty Miller, Luke Maupin, Chris Yates, and Lydia Tiller. This story was posted on 2008-01-19 19:40:29
