AC Fiscal Court will recognize Recycler of the Month

First recipient will receive award at the February meeting of Adair Fiscal Court

By Ed Waggener

Starting in February, Judge Ann Melton and the Adair Fiscal Court wlll be spotlighting an individual and/or business or organization for outstanding recycling efforts.

"Each month we will be recognizing a person or organization int he community for their outstanding leadership and commitment to the recycling program, and will present a plaque for being Adair County Recycler of the Month," Judge Melton said.

"We are doing this to show our appreciation to the residents and businesses of Adair County who take the time out of their busy schedules to recycle, to make the future better for Adair County now, and for generations of Adair Countians to come," Judge Melton said.

The county is doing everything possible to encourage the residents and businesses of Adair County, as well as residents and businesses of neighboring counties who would like to use the Adair County Recycling Center to do so. "We need 100% recycling and we need it now," Judge Melton said.

Judge Melton said, "I know that Adair County's future in recycling is secure because of the commitment the Adair County School District made to have 100% recycling, so the longterm future looks good.

"Our children are learning at school. But we don't have to wait for them to graduate. I truly believe that we adults can be better stewards of this wonderful county we live in. If 100% recycling can be done in the schools--and it is--then 100% recycling in Adair County ought to be everybody's goal, immediately."

The idea to recognize a recycler of the month is just the beginning, Judge Melton said. "County government by no means has a monopoly on good ideas for make recycling universal in Adair County," she said. "We welcome ideas. We welcome support from organizations and ministries. We welcome ideas on how to make recycling practical in every home."

"I hope that those who have organized their homes or businesses for recycling will share those ideas with others in meetings, at stores and restaurants, in radio call-ins, and in the newspapers and on ColumbiaMagazine.com any other means they know how."Nominees for Recycler of the Month should be called in to the County Judge Executive's office at (270) 384-4703, or addressed to "Recycler of the Month, Attn: Adair County Judge Executive Ann Melton, Courthouse 424 Public Square, Suite 1, Columbia, KY 42728. or Fax to (270)-384-9754.
