Breeding AVFD receives two federal grants totaling $142,407 One grant from Homeland Security for $111.415 for protective gear; second for $30,992 for communications equipment. Judge Melton commends group's tireless efforts obtaining grants Photo, roster, link to BAVFD with story By Brandon Harvey Public Affairs officer, Breeding Area Fire Department Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story On December 14, 2007, the Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department was selected by the Department of Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency to receive Assistance to Firefighter Grant. The grant totaled $111,415 and will be used to purchase Personal Protection Equipment and Self Contained Breathing Apparatuses. County Judge Executive Ann Melton personally congratulated the South Adair County group: "I would like to congratulate the Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department on receiving the FEMA Grant in the amount of $111, 415.00," she said. "Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department continues its dedication and commitment to the Breeding Area and Adair County," Judge Melton continued. "I would like to commend Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department on their tireless efforts in obtaining grants to benefit the fire department." Second grant for $30,992 from KY Homeland Security The second grant that the Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department is from the Kentucky Office of Homeland Security. The grant totaled $30, 992 and will be used to purchase communications equipment. The Breeding Area Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the Lake Cumberland Area Development District for the assistance given when applying for this grant. Chief Terry Harvey said the grants came at the most opportune moment. "These two grants came at the right time," Chief Harvey said. "The personal protective gear that we have now is nearing 10 years old and is worn out. Every firefighter will get a new set of turn out gear, from head to toe." "We will use the funds from the KY office of Homeland Security to purchase new mobiles radios with mobile repeaters to go in our fire trucks and portables for our department officers," Chief Harvey added.
