Adair County is honored again!! Yes, the Relay For Life (RFL) committee and team captains received wonderful news at its 2008 kickoff Tuesday evening. According to the American Cancer Society district and regional directors, of the 120 plus RFL 2007 state events, Adair County ranks 13th in Kentucky.

Additionally, in the Mid-South Division that includes the states of Kentucky, Tennessee, Louisiana, Alabama, Arkansas and Mississippi, with over 500 events, Adair County is ranked 24th. The rankings are based on per capita giving. Relay For Life co-chairs, Angela Dean and Steven Baker, accepted the banners on behalf of all the participants of the 2007 Adair County Relay For Life event.

This years event date has been moved to Friday, June 13-14 and is undergoing a few changes that will make it better and more entertaining than ever. The all night event will be divided into three parts: Celebrate. Remember. Fight Back, explained Angie Dean, co-chair.

Another major change this year involves our fundraising efforts. Teams will be able to continue fundraising all evening with the total amount raised by the Relay announced early Saturday morning.

Steven Baker, co-chair added, This years theme will be lots of fun. It centers around game shows and Adair County will have its very own cheesy game show host. Were also bringing back the ever popular Womanless Beauty Pageant, but it will be earlier in the evening so everyone can enjoy the fun. And, well be doing something totally new and really awesome. Were having our very own Relay Idol Contest. Youll be hearing more about that soon.

It is certainly not too late to form a team and be a part of this years Relay event. Everyones help is needed in the fight against cancer. Teams have already begun fundraising. Be sure to check ColumbiaMagazine.com each day for new fundraising activities. Soon you can check it all out on Adair Countys very own Relay For Life website with webmaster, Doug McCammish. He is also serving as regional technological support for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life On-line Giving.

This is a community event and we need the entire community! Join a team, start a team, give generouslyyou wont want to miss out on this years event. Come join us as we celebrate our survivorsremember those who were dear to usand fight back to end cancer! Help us make 2008 Relay For Life the best ever!
