Inquiries find that East 80 Bridge not past deadline Contractor is not behind. Deadline for completion is not until April 1, 2008. Note: This story appeared yesterday afternoon, but was not on the front page as intended Wesley Hutchison has written a letter which says that the length of time it is taking to build the East 80 bridge is not caused by lack of effort. "I work there and we work rain or shine and the contract is very different from what people think," he said, and it is a different kind of bridge." Mr. Hutchison was unavailable at the time of this post, but we expect to hear from him later. Indeed, from what Judge Ann Melton, as well as information Mike Newton has told us, Mr. Hutchison has a valid point. Mike Newton learned that the winter months don't count against the time the contractors have to complete the bridge. He had been told that work was also stopped several weeks, through no fault of the contractor. The work had been stopped by court order, while a legal matter raised by landowner Ed Pipalski, was considered. Judge Melton contacted the Kentucky Department of Highways earlier, hoping to see if there is some way the bridge work could be accelerated. "What they told me was that the contractor has until April 1 of this year to complete the project," she said. The road closure to allow for the replacement project took place on October 1, 2008. The problems motorists have had do emphasize how important the span is. This story was posted on 2008-01-12 04:09:31
