Brenda Riley, Community Education Director for Metcalfe County Education, is inviting Adair Countians to register for a series of classes to be offered in February and May, 2008.

"We have to have a minimum of 10 participants per class," Brenda Riley said, "so not all class are certain."

Metcalfe is one of 102 counties were Community Education Classes are offered. The classes are not offered in Adair. "Of course Adair Countians are welcome," Riley said, "we get a lot of people from Green, Barren, and Monroes Counties."

One of the favorite instructors was Anthony Ballou, Burkesville, KY, who is the son of Kenneth Ballou, an uncle of a whole gang of Ballous in Adair County, including two former high sheriffs. Anthony Ballou taught guitar. "It was a very popular class," Riley said.

Each of the classes have a registration charge, which varies from class to class. Some are as low as $10, others no more than $40.00.

To register, contact Brenda Riley, Community Education Director, 1007 West Stockton (toward Glasgow, on US68/KY80), Edmonton, KY. Phone 270-432-426; Fax (270) 432-4826.

Pre-registration is required for all classes. Payment is due on registration:

Sulphur Well's own Cora Emma Jessie

2008-01-11 - Edmonton, KY 42129 - Photo By Brenda Riley.
SHE EARNED HER FAME IN THE UNITED STATES POST OFFICE. But after retirement as postmaster at Sulphur Well, KY 42129, Cora Emma Jessie took up the guitar, learning the instrument in a Metcalfe County Community Education class under the tutelage of Anthony Ballou, Burkesville, KY. New community education classes are being organized for February and May; none in guitar, though that was a very popular class. A list is in the accompanying story. Classes are open to all, regardless of residence. Editor's note: Yes, Sulphur Well shares its Zip Code with Edmonton, and a lot of other places, include parts of Adair, Cumberland, Green, and Metcalfe Counties.
