Edmonton, KY driver, passenger injured in Old KY 61 crash

Northbound driver fails to see Old Burkesville Loop end, travels 134 feet beyond end of pavement into earth embankment of Columbian Western Bypass construction area

Two Metcalfe County residents, 38 year old Belinda Thompson and her 11-year-old passenger were transported by Adair EMS to Westlake Regional Hospital in Columbia, KY, following a single vehicle crash on Old Burkesville Loop in the limits of Columbia, KY, today.

The accident occurred at approximately 2:30pmCT, this afternoon, Wednesday, January 9, 2008.



Thompson was operating a 2006 Nissan Murano, traveling north on Old Burkesville Loop, and was unaware that the road comes to a dead end into the construction area for the Columbia Western Bypass.

The vehicle traveled approximately 134 feet beyond the end of the pavement before coming to a rest against an earth embankment.

The accident is being investigated by Columbia Police Department Officer Joshua Brockman assisted by the Adair County Sheriff's Department.

Both occupants were belted, Officer Brockman said. The vehicle was removed by R&R Recovery.
