ACES experiment in giving a big success

EDUCATION

Both younger and older students volunteer by the dozens to be Salvation Army bell ringers at Adair County Elementary School

By Robbie Harmon

Before Christmas Break we were asked if we had ever considered bringing in the Salvation Army donation kettles.

This got the ball rolling and we decided that bringing in the Salvation Army kettles would be a good way to help teach our students a small lesson in the season of giving.

We limited this to our older students as we felt they would grasp the concept with open arms. We had no idea!!!

We asked several of our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students become bell ringers for a short time during the lunch times of their peers.

We had several students wh0o volunteered to bell ringers.

As a matter of fact, we had a surplus!!! We had more bell ringers than we had time slots. I was very proud of our students as they volunteered by the dozens to give back to such a worthy charity.
