Gas Price Drumbeat:
As if gas prices elsewhere weren't high enough

Gerald Doss noted these prices for gas Sunday, January 6, 2008, and they should be enough to make people park their cars, write their elected officials and the local Chamber of Commerce, to find some way to send a message that will get heard. Look at this:
  • Columbia Gate, $3.15 a gallon
  • Campbellsville Gate, $2.95 a gallon
  • ColumbiaI Five Star $3.15 a gallon
  • Campbellsville Five Star, $2.95 a gallon
That's 20cents a gallon premium to buy gas in Columbia! That's roughly equivalent, on an annualized basis for all gasoline sold in Adair County, to $2,000,000 extra we pay for shopping in Adair County every year!.

The price differential Adair Countians pay for gas seems very unfair.Yet, no one in a leadership role except Columbia Mayor Patrick R. Bell, to our knowledge, has made any attempt to go directly to the companies and try to get them to change a pricing policy which hobbles the Adair County economy, put budgetary stress on the schools, and is a real burden for commuting breadwinners.

So far, the Mayor's efforts got a response, but no results. At least Mayor Bell made an effort.
