Adair County native Jody Richards, who represents the 20th House District, Warren County, in the Kentucky House of Representatives, is among those listed as having filed for re-election at the Kentucky Secretary of State webpage, State Representative List of Candidates

Richards is the longest serving Speaker of the House in Kentucky history. He is the son of he late Mary and Demaree Richards of Garlin, KY in Adair County and attended public schools here, before earning degrees at Kentucky Wesleyan and at the University of Missouri.

So far, Rep. Russ Mobley, who represents the 51st district comprised of Adair and Taylor County, has not yet filed, but is reported to be planning to do so.The only frequently mentioned Adair County possibilities to run for Mobley's seat are former 4th District Magistrate J.M. Shelley, a Democrat; and former Adair County Judge Richard L. Walker. Shelley has indicated interest in the race in the past. Walker has not, and would not be likely to run against Shelley. He's said he is too busy with real estate and with his work as Beshear administration contact man to run at this time.

Among others who had been mentioned as possible candidates from Taylor County, particularly if Mobley does not run, are Bam Carney (Taylor County school teacher and brother to Taylor County Clerk Mark Carney, Republican; former Taylor County Judge Paul Patton, Republican; former Taylor County Clerk Randall Phillips, Republican. Phillips, who is a Mobley ally and is not likely to run against him, has strong ties in Adair County.

Butch Wheatley, Campbellsville Democrat, who lost to Mobley in the last election, might try again, encouraged by the election of Gov. Steve Beshear and the prospects of a Democratic presidential win in Kentucky.
