Colonel Wm. Casey sends letter about heat home to parents The following letter was forwarded to ColumbiaMagazine.com by Principal Patty Jones. A copy of the letter is going home with CWC students this afternoon, Thursday, January 3, 2007 Dear Parents/Guardians: We want to clarify the heating situation at Col. Wm. Casey. Before we left for Christmas break we began having trouble with the boiler system at CWC. Maintenance worked on it and also called in an outside repair service. A part that was required to get our heating system working at full capacity was needed. While we did (and do) have heat in the building it was not up to full capacity. However, at the time the temperature in the building was adequate. Due to the age of our heating system the part has been extremely difficult to locate. When we returned to school on January 2, due to the extreme drop in temperature, several classrooms in the building were not at an acceptable temperature. Room size heaters were purchased by the district and the school and placed in all classrooms where the temperature was lower than acceptable. When we checked each room this morning the temperatures were much better. Only one classroom was extremely cold and that class will continue to have class in other locations until the problem is resolved. At this time the needed part is expected to arrive and be installed next week. Even when working properly the heating system in the school is a bit temperamental. Many classrooms will be extremely hot on the coldest days, to the point of having to run the air conditioners or open windows. In some rooms when the sun comes out the temperature increases a great deal. Our suggestion to all parents is to dress your child in warm layers.# This allows your child to adjust to the climate to suit his/her own self. Our goal is to provide a good education in the best environment possible for your child. Due to the age and condition of our school this can sometimes be a challenge. However, we want you to know that we strive to put our students' best interest at the forefront of everything we do.# We encourage and appreciate your input and any suggestions you may have to improve our school for you and your child. Sincerely, Patty Jones, Principal Laura Murrell, Asst. Principal January 3, 2008 This story was posted on 2008-01-03 13:14:03
