Tom Chaney ham essay honored by Byron Crawford Rob Stout notes recognition of Horse Cave writer, Tom Chaney, by Byron Crawford, and the new fame of Chaney's Country Ham Essay Dear Friends, This is a link to Tom Chaney's column on country ham fromThe Hart County News-Herald, repackaged by Byron Crawfordfor the Wednesday, December 26, 2007, Louisville newspaper. This is for those who may have missed it, as well as those who don't read the C-J. I did, on occasion, have Tom bake and slice a ham for me to use at my open house events at the parsonage in Horse Cave. I can attest to the results of this recipe. (These were usually hams hunted down for me by another gentleman from Horse Cave, the late Paul Curry, who wouldshop around for me, examine a number of hams -- including puncturing with toothpicks to see if they "smelled right" -- then have the local ham purveyor hold the appropriate and right ham for me, awaiting my arrival with the ham cash.) People who have never had the-small-town-country-ham experience are missing out.I just don't get to do things like that in Louisville. Peace,s/Rob Stout Thanks, Rob Stout. This is great news. I have said before that being wrote up by Byron Crawford is the highest honor a Kentuckian can receive, worth far more than a Kentucky Colonelcy, but being a guest columnist is even greater. It is with enormous pride that we note that Mr. Crawford even includes a mention of ColumbiaMagazine.com in the piece and that makes us immoderately proud. We hope everyone will use the link above to read the column in the Courier-Journal online, if you can't go out and buy a souvenir copy at a newsstand in Columbia.
