Simon Finn Bridge over Russell Creek at Kemp is open

Span connecting Adair County with Green County, KY, took less than 12 weeks, start to opening to traffic; only blacktop, approach guardrails yet added

By Ed Waggener

The Simon Finn Bridge over Russell Creek has been replaced and is now open to the public.

The construction took just 81 calendar days from start to finish, less than half the time estimated for the construction of the span at the outset.

"We let traffic across it last night,"Lewis Garrison, President of Garrison Construction Co., Inc., said this morning, Thursday, December 20, 2007.

Mr. Garrison cautioned that guardrails are not yet up to on the approaches, but said that barrels are placed along the sides of the approaches.

James Garrison, Lewis Garrison's son, said that guardrails will be added soon. "And want the dense grade to pack down before we put down black top on the approaches, he said.

"I can't say enough about the work our crews did," Lewis Garrison said. "They not only completed this bridge in record time for us, but they also took two weeks off to construct the culvert over Butler Fork on the Jones Chapel Road."

The dedication of the bridge will be announced by the Elizabethtown District of the the Kentucky State Highway Department, Mr. Garrison said.
