Donna Stotts installed as Columbia-Adair Co. Chamber President IMPORTANT REMINDER: For complete, latest Chamber Insights Magazine, Chamber stories archives, stories Click here Three photos accompany this article By Ed Waggener Donna Stotts was installed as the President of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, and Mindy Smith installed as Treasurer/Director of the organization last night at Lindsey Wilson College. Some 150-200 people were in attendance for the Christmas Party and December business meeting of the Columbia Adair County Chamber of Commerce, Monday night, December 3, 2007. Outgoing President Darrell Overstreet presided at the installation. He also gave the traditional farewell address outlining the highlights of his time in office. Among the major Chamber achievements he listed were:
Overstreet recognized the corporate sponsor, Lindsey Wilson College, the hosts, and the Cranmer officials, Joan Pinto and Vice President Jeff Wilson, for hosting the celebration. Dr. Betty Starr welcomed the Chamber to Lindsey on behalf of the college. Dr. Starr told the gathering about a few plans the college has for the future, including 1) A grant from Siemens Corporation to begin a career academy serving local high school and technical school students. 2) Plans to help more working adults get college degrees, and 3) Establishing focus groups with people in the community to help envision what Lindsey should become in the coming years. "We've just graduated the 20th class as a four year college," Dr. Starr said. "We're just infants as colleges go. We hope to grow and continue to make major contributions to the community." Musical entertainment was provided by the Lindsey Wilson Chorus, under the direction of Dr. Gerald Chafin. Pianist Dr. Bob Reynolds accompanied the group. Former President Richard Phelps gave an encore performance of "50 Years of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce. Looking Back to Forge Ahead." Many in the audience had not seen the presentation at the Chamber's November meeting, and those who had seen felt the second presentation was better than the first. Overstreet recognized outgoing board member Wallace Bowman, Columbia attorney, who is moving from the community. Besides a new President and Treasurer, officers for the coming year will be Vice President Stephen Keen and Secretary Monica Rogers, continuing in their roles; and a board of Directors which will include new member Mindy Smith and incumbents Charles Barnes, Dan Franklin, Benton Fudge, Patricia Harper, Ron Heath, Dave Johnston, Arlinda Kessler, Doug McCammish, Jr.; Darrell Treece, Dana Walker, and Katie Walker. Sue C. Stivers will continue as Executive Director, and was recognized by Past President Richard Phelps and Outgoing President Darrell Overstreet for her service. Door prizes for the party were given by the Bank of Columbia, Barger Insurance Agency, Central Kentucky Realty, Community Trust Bank, Dairy Queen, Duo-County Telephone, Family Home Health, First National Bank, Flowers 'n Things, Hallmark, Julia's Flower Garden, Kessler Mortgage, Key Mortgage Company, Lloyd French, MacDonalds, OK Country Cooking, Sheila's Country Junction, Sonic, United Citizens Bank of Southern Kentucky, Wendy's, and Shoreline Communications 92.7 The WAVE and 99.9 The Big Dawg.
