Columbia Baptist Church wins major float prize Parade Under the Lights drew most entrants, biggest crowds, ever. By Ed Waggener ColumbiaMagazine.com story First Place in the Christmas in Columbia 2007 Adair County Float contest was Columbia Baptist Church. Christmas in Columbia 2007 Chairman Dave Johnston and Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce President Darrell Overstreet presented a trophy and a check for $400 to Keena Grant representing the Columbia Baptist Church. The parade entrants were judged along the parade route. The checks and trophies were prepared by Sue Stivers, Executive Director of the Columbia-Adair County Chamber of Commerce, and were presented at the Chamber of Commerce building following the event was over. The parade had the highest number of entrants ever, with 80 listed. The parade was even more impressive when it is pointed out that all the horses counted as one unit, as did the multi-vehicle Kosair appearance, and all the antique cars represented only one of the 80 units. Chilling moments for some were the awesome sight of the thousands who lined the roadside from the parade's start on Industrial Drive, all the way down Jamestown Street, and then huge crowds on the square. Others reported the emotion of pride created by the sight of headlights lined down and up the ramps at the LBN Parkway interchange and for a long way along the parkway. In fact, many of the parade participants were able to complete the route, park, and make it back to the parade route to watch a big part of the end of the parade, as County PVA Willie Matt Fees, JR, was able to do. And others remember the emotions they felt as the incomparable Sharon Payne sang "Go Tell It on the Mountain," through the chill late autumn air as the award winning Eunice Church of God, New Hope Separate Baptist Church made its way along the parade route. And, as always, everywhere they go, unmatched pride that swells at the very sight of Field Commander Bonnie Cheng leading the Adair County Band. Finally, as always the sight of the Ladder 1 and the vehicles of the four county fire departments from Breeding, Columbia, Columbia-Adair County, and Knifley, and the Police and Emergency Response teams were exciting and reassuring sights. The complete list of winners is as follows: 2007 Christmas in Columbia Adair County Floats
2007 Christmas in Columbia Out of County
2007 Christmas in Columbia Adair County non-floats
