Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission to meet Link to site included for those with time to examine possibility of nature preserve in Adair County From Commonwealth News Center Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story The Kentucky State Nature Preserves Commission (KSNPC) will conduct a quarterly public meeting on Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at 10amET/9amCT, in the conference room of the Division for Air Quality, adjacent to the commissions office, 801 Schenkel Lane, Frankfort, KY. A highlight of the meeting will be the presentation of the commissions two most prestigious awards - the Biological Diversity Protection Award, given annually to a person who has made a significant contribution to the protection of Kentuckys biological resources, and the Volunteer Steward Award, which recognizes a person or organization for significant contributions as a volunteer to the stewardship of Kentuckys preserves. KSNPCs mission is to protect Kentuckys natural heritage by identifying, acquiring and managing natural areas that represent the best-known occurrences of rare, native species, natural communities and significant natural features in a statewide nature preserve system; working with others to protect biological diversity; and educating Kentuckians as to the value and purpose of nature preserves and biodiversity conservation. The commission inventories Kentucky for significant natural areas and protects the best examples in a state nature preserve system.
