Drawing for courthouse oil painting at 1:00 Sat. Dec. 1, 2007 With one photo ColumbiaMagazine.com story The raffle to determine the winner of a one of a kind painting of the Adair County Courthouse by artist Trina Corbin, well known for her oils and murals, will be Saturday, December 1, 2007, at 1:00pm, Sheila Hare, owner of Sheila's County Junction, has announced. Tickets for the raffle continue on sale at Sheila Hare's Country Junction, 205 Public Square, Columbia, KY. at $1 each or six for $5.00. Phone (270) 384-0022. The painting is large, approximately four feet by four feet. A value hasn't been placed on it, but the artist said her time was equivalent to what she would have needed to paint a $1,000 mural. A percentage of the proceeds of the sale will go to Craig's Classmates in memory of Sheila Hare's son, Craig Hare, her sister, Frieda Willis, and her parents, Oscar and Willa Wood. It will also be in memory of the artist's grandparents and her husband's grandparents, Buck and Lillie Arnold and Asa and Florence Corbin. "It's really fitting for my grandfather, Buck Arnold, that the painting is of the Adair County Courthouse," Trina Corbin said. "They used to say that if you wanted to find Buck Arnold, the first place to look would be on one of the benches at the courthouse, where he could be found whittling. He loved the courthouse, knives, and making those long cedar shavings the men used to make." Doing the project together was a natural. Trina Corbin grew up just across the Taylor County line from the Woods, in the Mt. Zion Church area of Eastridge Cemetery Road. This story was posted on 2007-11-26 11:58:11
