South Approach to Past the Prison taking shape

2007-11-22 - KY 55 & Industrial Drive - Photo By Ed Waggener.
SOUTHERN TERMINUS OF THE COLUMBIA WESTERN BYPASS, the new intersection of the Columbia Western Bypass and KY 55 South, is taking shape. Some question the seemingly needless expenditure for this section of the bypass. When it was first proposed during the Patton Administration, the most important part of the highway infrastructure, the KY 61/LBN interchange, was not part of the overall plan. Had that intersection not been built. Semi trucks and other traffic coming south on KY 61 and KY 55 and headed for Bowling Green via the Louie B. Nunn Parkway would have had to have made a left turn here, and a second left by KSP Post 15 at Exit 49 to access the Louie B. Nunn Parkway. More and more people are using hindsight to access what boondoggle, the almost worthless section of the CWB from KY 61 South to KY 55, which pissed away the funds which could have built the second most important component of the Adair County Highway system, an Eastern Bypass. Many hope that the new Beshear Democratic Administration will right the mistake of the Patton years and fast track, or Design/Build the Eastern Bypass.
