Obituary: Lonie Ellen Melson, 96, of Baptist faith

Mrs. Melson was one of counties oldest citizens and was the matriarch of a large South Adair County family, leaving 109 living descendants

Lonie Ellen Melson, 96, 4610 Highway 900, Columbia, KY (the Cundiff community), died Tuesday, November 20, 2007, at 3:00pmCT, at Russell County Hospital.

The funeral service will be Friday, November 23, 2007, at 11:00amCT, at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home, 200 Campbellsville ST, Columbia, KY, with Bro. Curtis Ballenger officiating.



She was the daughter of the late Pem and Tina Hamon Spencer, the widow of Clyde Melson, and was of the Baptist faith.

She was also preceded in death by three children, Jr. Melson, Helen Jean Melson, Betty McClister, three brothers and three sisters and five grandchildren.

Survivors include the following:
  • Three sons: Walter and his wife Allene Melson, Cundiff, KY; Robert Melson, Cundiff; and Stanley and his wife Lucille Melson, Jamestown, KY

  • Two daughters: Norma George and Jerlene and her husband McKinley Hall, all of Cundiff

  • Thirty-one grandchildren, 50 great grandchildren, and 23 great-great grandchildren
Visitation will be at Grissom-Martin Funeral Home after 2:00pm, Thursday, November 22, 2007.

Grissom Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
