With one photo

By Linda Waggener, assistant director of university communications

Campbellsville University president Dr. Michael V. Carter gave thanks and a vision of the future of CU to members of the Campbellsville/Taylor County Chamber of Commerce as he spoke at the November luncheon.

"Your support is essential to our well-being," he said, "and in return, we believe our well-being is good for the community as demonstrated in the annual economic impact of Campbellsville University with $76 plus million dollars flowing through the community because of the university."

He quoted from Benjamin Mays: "The tragedy of life doesn't lie in not reaching your goal. The tragedy lies in having no goal to reach -- not failure, but low aim is sin."

Dr. Carter assured the audience that CU is not aiming low and cited new programs that meet the needs of today's students and unprecedented building including:
  • Faculty that are on the cutting edge of their disciplines
  • Continuing increases in scholarships
  • A new School of Business and Economics at the site of the Angel Building on North Columbia Avenue in Campbellsville
  • A new School of Education behind the School of Nursing
  • One to two more buildings to the E. Bruce Heilman Student Complex
  • Additional new residence halls and
  • Improved classrooms, athletic facilities and fields
"Why is your continued support so important to Campbellsville University?" he asked. "Education is our future in this evolving world economy, and we believe Christian higher education is vital. It is our strong belief that when you help CU with its mission, it also strengthens Campbellsville and Taylor County."
