Adair County County Marching Band wins National Championship ACHS Marching Band has now won title two years running. Photos, links to other National Class A BOA Championship story below Special ColumbiaMagazine.com story The Adair County High School Marching Band won the 2007 Class A National Championship at the Bands of America Grand National Championships at the RCA Dome in Indianapolis this past weekend. This time, the victory was not only for Adair County, it was a major victory for the State of Kentucky as well. Though victories have some with regularity this season as in the past 26 years under Director Tim Allen, Adair Countians never tire of coming out to greet them, to welcome them home. Welcome home escort was huge The welcome home escort by emergency vehicles and the large crowd of local supporters around the square and at the band room was especially heart-warming, band members and boosters all agreed. "I am so proud of our students. They have worked very hard in trying to reach this lofty goal, and I am so happy they have been rewarded for their efforts. They are certainly deserving of this prestigious achievement," Director Tim Allen said. "This is something that I hope they will cherish in their memories for years to come." Band also wins highest acheivement awards as well as Championship The band also received highest achievement awards for Best Visual Performance, Best Musical Performance, and Best Overall Effect, as well as earning a Division 1 Rating. "We have had a very successful marching season this year," Mr. Allen said, "The students have put in countless hours of hard work since July, and I hope they feel a great sense of satisfaction for all of their efforts." Band Booster organization was a major factor A large number of Adair Countians made the 200 mile, overnight trip to Indianapolis. "It amazed me," Mr. Allen said, "the incredible number of Adair Countians that made the trip to Indianapolis to see the band and cheer them on." He added, "They really make a difference." He added, "I'll never be able to thank our booster organization enough for the support they have given to these students this season. They have devoted countless hours behind the scenes to get our band students through contests weekend after weekend and have worked especially hard to raise money in order to fund this trip to Grand Nationals." Eighty-five bands from 22 states competed at the event before a packed RCA Dome crowd. Competing at the Bands of America Grand National Championships since 1990, this is second time the Adair County Band has won the Class A National Championship. Mr. Allen extended special tanks to his staff members: Assistant Band Director, Matt Emerson and staff members, Doug Neal, Rob Depp, Rob Arnold, Keith Dawson, Jason Dye, Seth Whitaker, Chris Allen, and Dan Twiford. "I also want to thank our community and our board of education which have supported the Adair County Band through financial commitments, and also to special 'friends' of the Adair County Band that have made donations," he said. "Without their help, none of this success would be possible. Positive experience for the students, besides winning "This was a wonderful and positive experience for the students, not just because of the results, but also because of the opportunity for the students to showcase their talents in an environment such as the RCA Dome, to see and hear other fine band programs, and to be appreciated by the audience, as well as the adjudicators," he said. Congratulations again to the Adair County Marching Band on representing our county and our state so well.
