Obituary: Former Adair County Sheriff Bobbie C. Willis, 77

Mr. Willis' warmth and generously expressed smile made him one of Adair County's most beloved citizens. A devout Baptist, a deacon, Mason, US Air Force Veteran, political leader, a respected lawman, and a dairy farmer, his exemplary life earned enormous respect here
Bobbie C. Willis, 77, 226 Rocky Hill Road, Columbia, KY, passed away Friday, November 16, 2007, at 4:40amCT, at the Summit Manor Health and Rebab Center in Columbia, KY, after several months illness.

The funeral service will be Sunday, November 18, 2007, at 1:30pmCT, at the Columbia Baptist Church, with Rev. Randy Johnson and Rev. Ken Hill the officiating clergy.



Mr. Willis was a member and Deacon of the Columbia Baptist Church.

He was a former Adair County Sheriff and Deputy Sheriff, serving in those positions for a total of 9 1/2 years.

He was a member of Columbia Masonic Lodge #96 for 51 years.

He was a long time member of the Board of Directors of the Adair County Farm Bureau in Columbia, KY. He served in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1970 and was a dairy farmer.

He was born August 10, 1930 the son of the late Evan and Bertha Breeding Willis of Adair County, KY. He is survived by his wife, Nancy Bouldin Suddarth Willis, Columbia, KY, and the following:
  • One son: Mark Willis and wife Susan, Columbia, KY

  • Six daughters: Beverly Rothenberger and husband Don, Indianapolis, IN; Brenna Taylor and husband Jeff, Houston, TX; Jaime White and husband Bruce, Columbia, KY; Rose Mary Willis, Columbia, KY; Theresa West, Lexington, KY; and Robin Hill and husband Ken, Houston TX

  • Twelve grandchildren: Josh and Jordon Willis; Wesley, Kara and Laura Feese; Joe and Amy Murray; Julie Taylor Sebren, Stephanie Taylor, Michael Taylor, and Rachel and Nathan Hill

  • One brother: Danny Willis, Louisville, KY

  • Two sisters: Reba Stewart, Louisville, KY, and Elizabeth Grubbs, Hodgenville, KY.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Willis, in 2006.

Interment will be in the Murray-Todd Cemetery on the Willis Farm on Rocky Hill Road, Columbia, KY.The requests visiting after 3:00pmCT, Saturday, November 17, 2007, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg ST, Columbia, KY.Expressions of sympathy may take the form of a donation to the Rose Willis Endowed Scholarship Fund at Lindsey Wilson College, 210 Lindsey Willson Street, Columbia, KY.
