Six students added to Wall of Fame at ACHS

Hannah Peck, Sean Rooks, Seth Coomer, Alexander Kelsay, Korianne Cox, and James Herbst received Distinguished scores in four areas of CATS tests
Six students' names were added to the Wall of Fame at Adair CountyHigh School today for receiving Distinguished scores in all four areasof on the latest CATS testing. The four areas are Math, SocialStudies, Arts & Humanities, and Science.

The six are Hannah Peck, Sean Rooks, Seth Coomer, Alexander Kelsay,Korianne Cox and James Herbst.



Besides having their names added to the Wall of Fame, the six getspecial parking places, closest to the building. The spaces are marked"Distinguished Indian," and no other student is allow to park in thatspace.

Hanna Peck admits that was an incentive. "I've always worked hard inclass and on state testing, she said, "but I worked extra hard thisyear so I could get one of the Distinguished Indian parking spaces forthe year!"

Hannah Peck received perfect scale scores of 1180 in Social Studies,Arts & Humanities, and Science and an 1179 in Math.

Sean Rooks, Seth Coomer and Korianne Cox all received a perfect scalescore of 1180 in Arts & Humanities.
Seth Coomer gave credit to the school. "Much of my success ineducation is from the level of courses I have taken at ACHS," he said,"I've always believed that if you push yourself you will achieve athigher levels."James Herbst received perfect scale score of 1180 in both Math andArts & Humanities.

John Shelley, math teacher at ACHS, was proud of the outstanding AdairCounty High School math achievements. "Our department is very proud ofour math score which is 38th out of 222 high schools across the state.We attribute this success to the combined effort of both the mathdepartment and the students," he said."We spent much of the yearfocusing on curriculum maps, open response strategies, collaboration,and learning checks. We feel these are the reasons for our successboth in the math department and school-wide."

Adair County Principal, Troy Young, pleased with the much improvedCATS scores this year, said, "We are extremely please with the gains inour CATS scores this year. Although we are not yet where we want tobe, I feel we are heading in the right direction. It just shows thatwhen teachers and students work together to achieve a common goal thatsuccess is inevitable."
