ColumbiaMagazine.com story

It was a day for Democrats to celebrate regaining the governorship, but the Adair County Republican Party delivered almost 68% of the General Election vote for Gov. Ernie Fletcher in today's balloting. The figure was one of the three highest in the state, in terms of percentage or plurality. It was a major personal victory for Adair County Judge Ann Melton, who had made the governor's race a high priority. Governor Fletcher carried the absentees and all 16 precincts by overwhelming majorities.

The Adair County Republican Party went counter to most of the state results, and in a very impressive manner, carrying every precinct and all absentee voting for every office contested.

In the District 1 Magisterial Race, Republican Danny Goodin defeated independent Gene Dale Holmes to take the seat left vacant by the resignation of Republican Roger Stephens. Goodin can be sworn in as soon as his election is certified.

In Columbia, Councillor Joe Moore, who was unopposed in his overtime race, polled 599 votes.

The complete countywide totals follow. Precinct by precinct vote totals and absentee will be added during the next few hours.

Loretta & Danny Goodin: Happy even before final results

2007-11-07 - Adair Annex Building - Photo By Ed Waggener.
The VOTE TOTALS WERE IN when this photo of Loretta and Danny Goodin was taken, but Mrs. Goodin, a little reluctantly, allowed this stand by your man photo to be taken. Mr. Goodin won by 99 votes, and will take office after the vote is certified as Magistrate, District 1 (Eunice-Pellyton, Little Cake and White Oak), of Adair County. A posed photo with the Nancy Reagan gaze didn't come out.

General Election 2007: A great tradition lives on

2007-11-07 - Adair Annex - Photo By Ed Waggener.
NORTH COLUMBIA PRECINCT ARRIVES: At 6:21pmCT,election night, Tuesday, November 6, 2007 North Columbia Sheriff George Thomas Keltner and Clerk Donald Keith came through the door of the Adair Annex, to again be the first precinct to report to sign in with Deputy Adair County Court Clerk Sheila Hayes. Mr. Keltner won't reveal all the protocol for how the team operates so efficiently, but he says it's no accident that they were the winners in the Race to Report 2007. Time was geographic differences could account for the speed. In the old days, North Columbia operated out of the old Adair County Highway Department Barn, which was located at the corner of Monroe and Adams Street, a block from the courthouse. But today, the North Columbia voting house is way out in the country, at Trinity United Methodist Church, between Columbia and Cane Valley. Clerks at North Columbia are Faye Rowe and Judge Chris Maurath. Behind Mr. Keltner in the photo are the eyes of Adair County Deputy Sheriff Tracy McCarol.
