LWC homecoming November 8-11, 2007

Distinguished alumni to be honored this year are Sam Clark, Gary Lane, Jim Gaskins, and Walter "Wally" Rich. 1st day events include Seventh Annual Morris Shepherd '53 Ping Pong Tournament

Four Lindsey Wilson College alumni will be honored when the college celebrates its 76th Alumni Homecoming Weekend, to be held November 8-11, 2007.

The four alumni will be honored at the annual Alumni Homecoming Banquet, to be held at 11:30amCT on Saturday, November 10, 2007 in Roberta D. Cranmer Dining and Conference Center.



Also on Saturday, the college will hold the annual homecoming parade; the Class of 1957 will celebrate its golden 50-year reunion; the classes of 1947 and '67 will also celebrate reunions; the classes of 1981 '82 and '83 will hold a combined reunion; and special reunions will be held for Kentucky Mountain Laurel Festival representatives, baseball players, basketball players, cheerleaders, Mr. and Miss LWC, and May King and Queen.

At 3:00pmCT on Sunday, November 11, LWC Professor of Music Bob Reynolds will be featured at a concert titled "Franz and Antonio in America." The crossover roots music concert will feature Reynolds on piano and John Reynolds on guitar.

"This is always a great weekend on the hill of Lindsey Wilson because it brings together people from so many different backgrounds," said LWC Alumni Director Rhiannon McQueary. "And Homecoming Weekend is not just for Lindsey Wilson alumni. We encourage area residents to join us on the hill and take advantage of the many activities being offered. There's something for just about everyone."This year's Lindsey Wilson homecoming features two events create for families a 5K race/walk and "Family Fun Time at the Quadrangle."

The 5K race/walk, which is a fund-raiser for the ACES student group, will begin at 8:00amCT. In addition to the road race and walk, it also will include a race for children.

The "Family Fun Time" will be held on the Campus Quadrangle behind the L.R. McDonald Administration Building. The event which will include lunch stands includes special activities for children created by students in LWC recreation classes.

"We added the 5K race to the 'Family Fun' time so guests with children would have an alternative to the traditional banquet," McQueary said.

Also during the weekend, the Lindsey Wilson men's basketball team will play two home games and the women's basketball team will play one on Saturday. The 2007 Homecoming king and queen will be crowned between the women's and men's basketball games on Saturday.

The four Lindsey Wilson alumni to be honored at Saturday morning's banquet are:
  • Rev. Sam Clark of Jeffersonville, IN. A 1950 LWC graduate, Clark will receive the Distinguished Service Award for more than half a century of service to The United Methodist Church and Lindsey Wilson.

  • Jim Gaskin of Danville, KY.A 1956 LWC graduate, Gaskin will receive the Special Achievement Award for his distinguished career on the stage and in broadcasting with Renfro Valley Entertainment Center in Rockcastle County, Ky.

  • Gary Lane of Danville, KY. A 1961 LWC graduate, Lane will receive the Distinguish Alumnus Award for his research in animal science and the dairy industry.

  • Walter "Wally" Rich of San Antonio, TX. A 1990 LWC graduate, Rich will received the Young Alumnus Award for his service at Cornerstone Church in San Antonio.
"These four distinguished alumni are a great example how this college have shaped leaders across the generations and across the disciplines," said Lindsey Wilson College President William T. Luckey Jr. "All four of them came to Lindsey Wilson from different places and pursued different careers. In addition to sharing a deep love for their alma mater, they have all excelled in their chosen professions or callings in life."

Homecoming activities get under way on Thursday with the annual Veterans Appreciation Luncheon, which will be at 11:00amCT in Cranmer Dining and Conference Center. Also on Thursday, the Lindsey Wilson Singers and Concert Choir will give a 7:00pmCT concert at Columbia Baptist Church. Friday's events include a golf scramble and the Seventh-Annual Morris Shepherd '53 Ping-Pong Tournament.

LINDSEY WILSON STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION KICKS OFF HOMECOMING WITH A BANG The Lindsey Wilson College Student Government Association celebrated the beginning of 2007 Homecoming with fireworks on Tuesday evening. With the assistance of members of the Adair County Volunteer Fire Department, fireworks were set off on the campus for about 20 minutes Tuesday evening.
