Little Cake Rd accident sends driver to WRH; Ranger destroyed Photos accompany story By Ed Waggener The driver of a northbound 2000 Ford Ranger Pickup left the Little Cake Road roadway, overcorrected after dropping over the shoulder. The vehicle ran off the left side of the road, apparently went airborne, hit a tree, and came to a rest with the pickup upside down. The vehicle was destroyed in a subsequent fire. The incident occurred mid Tuesday afternoon. The driver, David Barnett, 37, Neat Hollow Road, was transported from the scene by Adair County EMS. The Adair County Sheriff's Department received a call on the accident at 3:33pm, Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Deputy Charles Greer was on the scene shortly afterward. Greer said the accident likely happened about 10 minutes earlier. Greer called in the Adair County Fire Department when the vehicle appeared to be ready to burst into flames. When firemen arrived shortly afterward, they quickly brought the fire under control, but the vehicle was almost completely destroyed. Six firemen were on the scene for approximately 30 minutes. At the scene were Adair County Chief Terry Flatt, Columbia Chief Mike Glasgow and Firemen Steve Phillips, Mike Keltner, Justin Bailey, and William Grider The accident occurred just north of the interesection of Little Cake Road and Neat Hollow Road. Traffic on the road was tied up for the better part of an hour, with some 10 vehicles, mostly on the north side of the road, stopped while the firemen made sure the flames were out.
