Columbia-Adair County Fireman visit CWC Col. Casey kids get to climb on Ladder 1 and equipment truck, get basic fire prevention and fire safety instruction With three photos Kids at Colonel Wm. Casey had a great visit this morning from members of the Columbia & Adair County Fire Departments, who let them tour Ladder 1 and the Fire Departments' Equipment truck and receive instruction in Fire Safety. The instruction took most of this morning, Thursday, October 18, 2007, from 8:00am to noon CT, for Columbia and Adair County Firemen Donald Hare, Roger Cundiff, Tommy Kemp, Bradley Caldwell, Josh Brockman, Darrell Flatt, and David Taylor, but it's a volunteer day they all love, Donald Hare said. The firemen instructed the students in basics of fire safety and fire prevention: Smoke detectors, calling 911, use of fire detectors, how thermal imaging helps find fire hot spots, and how to put out clothing fires by following the simple, "Stop, Drop and Roll" exercise. The training was part of Fire Prevention Week. which was officially last week. But because the firemen are volunteers, it is impractical for them to take off a large enough block of tiem to instruct all the kids. Earlier, the firemen have been to the 4-H Farm Safety Day and they've given classes to Adair County's Headstart students. Next week, they will be at John Adair Intermediate School.
