Obituary: Clyde Burton, 78

Mr. Burton was a member of a large Adair County family. He was a logger and a farmer

Clyde Burton, 78, a resident of Cumberland Valley Nursing Home, Burkesville, KY, formerly of Columbia, KY, passed away suddenly, Monday, October 15, 2007, at 5:39pmCT, at the Cumberland County Hospital Emergency Room.

The funeral service will be Thursday, October 18, 2007, at 11:00amCT, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, 210 Greensburg Street, Columbia, KY. Interment will be in Bryant Cemetery.


He was born February 13, 1929, the son of the late Elic and Lura Grant Burton.He is survived by the following:
  • Two sons: Jerry Burton and his wife Cindi, and Jimmy Burton and his wife Teresa Burton, all of Columbia, KY.

  • Three daughters: Judy Beard and her husband Louie, Columbia, KY; Janie Burton, Columbia, KY; and Jana Lynn Jessee and her husband Rev. Kenneth Jessee of Hardinsburg, KY

  • Two brothers: Elic Burton, Jr., Edinburgh, IN; and Glen Burton, Columbia, KY

  • Nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Nolan Burton and James E. (Booger) Burton and three sisters, Lorena Hadley, Betty Patterson, and Lydia Cook.

He faithfully attended the chapel services at Cumberland Valley Nursing Home. He was a logger and a farmer.

Visitation is after 4:00pmCT, Wednesday, October 17, 2007, at Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home, Columbia, KY.

Stotts-Phelps-McQueary Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
