Helmets for Kids has given away 149 helmets so far Already, program is proving itself to have prevented serious injury. Applications still being taken. Will know on Hamburger Helper/Hometown Helper application for more funds by Nov. 15, 2007 Photo, links with this story To ColumbiaMagazine.com, I wanted to update you on the Helmets for Kids program and to let people know we are still giving away free ATV helmets to children under 18 who live in Adair County. So far we have given away 149 helmets. I have received several applications from the ATV safety booth of the Progressive Farmer 4-H Farm Safety Day. Along with the child fatality review team, we want people to be aware that riding with a helmet is going to improve your chance of survival if a wreck occurs. A few weeks ago, I received a thank you card from a mother who told me that her daughter had wrecked her ATV about 30 minutes after getting home from picking up her new helmet. If she had not been wearing the helmet, she could have been seriously injured. A story like this encourages us to continue to promote safety awareness. I appreciate all the people that have made comments to the Hamburger Helper/Hometown Helper grant application. We should know by November 15th if it is approved. I also appreciate all of the staff at Rex's Cycle Shop and the people that have donated money to the project. Thank you, Rick Wilson RelatedClick Here for previous story on Helmets for Kids This story was posted on 2007-10-15 02:48:28
